Weil ich kaum Gelegenheit finde, bis zum bevorstehenden Weihnachtsfest alle Menschen, die ich ansprechen möchte, auch wirklich zu erreichen, so nehme ich ein paar Zeilen von einem ganz Klugen, Carl Jacob Burckhardt, um auszudrücken, was mir schon sehr lange auf der Seele brennt:
Es gehört zum Schwierigsten, was einem denkenden Menschen auferlegt werden kann, wissend unter Unwissenden den Ablauf eines historischen Prozesses miterleben zu müssen, dessen unausweichlichen Ausgang er längst mit Deutlichkeit kennt. Die Zeit des Irrtums der anderen, der falschen Hoffnungen, der blind begangenen Fehler wird dann sehr lang.
Carl Jacob Burckhardt (* 10. September 1891 in Basel; † 3. März 1974 in Vinzel, Kanton Waadt) war ein schweizerischer Diplomat, Essayist und Historiker.
